This demonstration will give you an opportunity to see how WebFOCUS can be used to solve typical business problems. You will use WebFOCUS within the Century Corp intranet environment. Century Corp is a fictional consumer electronics manufacturer, and the application you are about to explore will give you a feel for the types of capabilities you can embed in reporting systems for end users in your organization.

The type of reporting you will be performing in this demo is called "structured ad-hoc reporting." With structured ad-hoc reporting, users can choose parameters from drop-down menus in a standard Web page, and then run the reports they choose, viewing them in any format, including Microsoft Excel, PDFs, graphs, and HTML.

Structured ad-hoc reporting enables organizations to immediately provide wide-scale, Web access to a great depth of information while still providing flexibility, ease-of-use, and security. Users have the capabilities of an ad-hoc or OLAP tool—but with no learning curve.

Developers can quickly create the reports using templates. They do not need to get extensive details of each report users want to view, and they do not need to reorganize data in intermediate files and cubes. They are able to access relational, legacy, and any other data source directly and begin creating real-time reports from day one.

Employees, managers, analysts, partners, and customers can easily choose the information they want, whenever and however they want it. And organizations can put real-time information in the hands of every decision-maker.
